  1. The penguins eat 3 boxes of small fish a day. 
    Each box weighs 2.4 kg and costs $6.50. 
    The park has just purchased $344.50 worth of fish. 
    How long will this last the penguins?
Work: we want number of days (how long)

($344.50) x  (1 box/$6.50) x (1 day /3 boxes)
= 17.6666666667 days  ( or 17 2/3 days  or 53/3 days)

  1. The elephants eat 7 bales of hay over 2 days. 
    Each bale of hay costs $12. 
    How much would it cost to feed the elephants 
    during the month of July?

    Work: 7 bales/2 days * 31 days/July x $12/bale = 
    7 /2 * 31*12 = $1302 : Answer
