Read pages 43-44 of the article
1. What is a physical map?
2. What are four physical features of land?
3. What is a relief map?
4. What is a political map?
5. Why do political maps change over time?
6. What is a special-purpose map?
7. What are two examples of political maps?
8. How are maps sometimes combined?
9. What is the first thing you should look at on a map? Why?
Activity 5: On page 46 use map 1-15 to answer the questions below:
1. What is the title of the map?
2. What part of the map tells you what the symbols mean?
3. What do the solid black lines on the map stand for?
4. What do the dotted black lines stand for?
5. Would you call this a physical map, a political map, a special purpose map, or all three?
Activity 6: One the paper provided create a guide to maps. Divide your paper into thirds. Your sections will be physical map, political map, special purpose map.
For each section include:
A title
A definition for that map
What the map helps explain
An image of that type of map
